Jamie Huber

I’d like to extend a sincere thank you to Jamie Huber, our Regional Superintendent, for presenting at the Board of Education meeting last night. As many of you are aware, Jamie is leading the effort behind the upcoming regional CTE millage proposal, which will appear on the November 4 ballot. If passed, the millage would generate over $4 million annually for the next six years to support Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs across all 10 school districts in our region.

These funds would be specifically earmarked for CTE expansion and sustainability, helping to strengthen programs in schools like ours and support development in districts that currently offer none. Here in Cheboygan, we are proud to offer nine CTE programs, the most in the Northeastern Region of Michigan. For context, Gaylord, a larger and more populated district, currently offers six. Even more striking, six of the ten districts in our region do not offer any CTE programs at all.

This millage presents a tremendous opportunity not only to maintain and grow the programs we have in place but also to expand access and equity for students across the region. Thank you for your continued support of our students and the future of our local workforce. Also, please see the link for a timely article recently published by MDE, which outlines the state’s commitment to expanding CTE opportunities across Michigan.
