A big thank you to our outstanding bus mechanics, Ethan Balitz and Brian Rettell, for helping us pass our State Police bus inspections with flying colors this week! 🚌
Their dedication, hard work, and attention to detail play a critical role in keeping our buses safe and reliable for our students each and every day. We truly appreciate all that they do behind the scenes to keep our district running smoothly.
Thank you, Ethan and Brian, for your commitment to student safety! Go Chiefs!

Congratulations to Chris Borowicz! Chris is the latest recipient of the Cheboygan Challenge Coin, an award given to outstanding employees of the school district who routinely go above and beyond CAS expectations.
Chris is a long-time Cheboygan Area Schools employee with 23 years of service. He currently works as a full-time daytime custodian at the Intermediate School and a part-time bus driver. He values building positive connections with students, often serving as the first and last staff member they see each day, and uses humor to engage them. Chris frequently subs on bus routes and is familiar with all of them. He also serves as president of USW Local 9998, representing custodians, food service workers, aides, and paraprofessionals.
Originally from Cheboygan and a 1986 graduate of Cheboygan High School, Chris served six years in the U.S. Navy as a Boiler Technician before returning home. After working in various jobs, he joined CAS and has been a valued member of the district ever since. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time at his cabin in Hulbert in the Upper Peninsula, appreciating the quiet and relaxation it offers. Thank you, Chris, for your dedication to the school district and your leadership. Go Chiefs!

Consumers Energy Update – Cheboygan County
Cheboygan Area Schools has received the following update from Consumers Energy regarding ongoing operations at the hydro facility: Consumers Energy anticipates attempting to power the turbines at the Cheboygan hydro facility sometime today to assess whether they are operational. This process has been evolving, and the exact timing is not yet confirmed.
If the facility is powered, it will require a temporary shutdown of the substation, which could result in a power outage affecting approximately 5,000 residents in the Cheboygan area. It is also possible that multiple shutdowns may be necessary if additional attempts are required. Consumers Energy will continue to communicate with the County Emergency Manager and will provide more specific timing information as it becomes available.
Additionally, Consumers Energy is coordinating with the American Red Cross to support emergency shelter efforts if needed. We appreciate everyone’s continued patience and cooperation as we navigate the ongoing flooding situation in our community.
