CAS has been in constant communication with the County Emergency Response Team today. Currently, there is no concern regarding dismissal, and the school day will continue as normal today. After school today, and into the early evening, we will continue to monitor the situation. The areas of concern are pictured, and we plan to follow the leadership and guidance of the EOC throughout this entire process.

This milestone marks the beginning of a transformation that reflects our shared commitment to students, staff, and the future of our district. We hope you’ll join us to celebrate this momentous occasion!

Again, I want to sincerely thank everyone who was out working alongside us today to help clear entryways at our schools. We truly appreciate the time and effort. It does not go unnoticed.
Unfortunately, despite those efforts, we were only able to make a small amount of progress and were not able to reach all entrances and/or all parking areas. In addition, a thick layer of ice lies beneath the snow, making both walking and driving conditions hazardous.
We have also been in communication with the Road Commission, and while they are working diligently to clear back roads, there is still significant work to be done.
Given the amount of snow and ice still needing to be addressed, and out of concern for the safety of our students, families, and staff, Cheboygan Area Schools will be closed again tomorrow, Thursday, March 19th.
We understand how challenging and disruptive this has been for families, and we appreciate your continued patience and support. Please stay safe and stay warm.

I would like to thank everyone who put in a full day’s work today, helping to dig out Cheboygan Area Schools. Unfortunately, it appears we will need another day.
After speaking with the Road Commissioner this afternoon, there is still significant work to be done on many of our back and side roads before we can feel confident that buses can maneuver safely.
So, due to the overwhelming snow accumulation still on back roads and in school parking lots, Cheboygan Area Schools will be closed again tomorrow, Wednesday, March 18.

CAS is currently seeking assistance with heavy equipment for snow removal today. If you know of someone who may be available to help this afternoon, please contact Steve or me via email.
Our most immediate need is at Inverness Academy, which has not yet been cleared. Due to the weight and volume of snow, standard plow trucks will not be sufficient.
Additionally, we have been in communication with the road commission, and they have indicated that many side and back roads will remain untreated today and will be impassable for buses tomorrow, if they cannot clear them today.
We remain hopeful that school will resume tomorrow, but that will depend on the progress made throughout the afternoon. I will provide an update later this evening.
Stay safe and stay warm.
