Wear an orange shirt tomorrow to show your support. "Orange Shirt Day” started as a day of remembrance for Indigenous children who were separated from their families and sent to residential schools in Canada, but the event now encompasses First Nations across the United States.

Mrs. Knaffle, Mr. Mix and Mr. Wilson were guest judges for two of Mr. Yost's classes today. They were debating Federalists versus Anti-Federalists. The students were well-prepared and did a fantastic job arguing their perspectives. #GoChiefs!!

What a great lab in Mrs. Brand's room today on single cell organisms. Kids did an amazing job and learned about spirogyra, a type of algae. Great work being done in the Science department!

FYI-As part of our response team, we will be calling in some extra administrative help for the remainder of the week, Jason Purcell, to assist Ben and help support the CIS students and staff for the remainder of the week and/or as needed. Many of you know Jason. He was a HS teacher for CAS before finishing up his career as a MS principal for Petoskey. We appreciate Jason coming out of retirement to give us some help during these demanding times. Thank you Jason!

Thank you! A big thank you to Mr. Munger and the HS Woods class for refinishing our picnic tables in the HS courtyard! The HS courtyard is now open during lunches for students to use these beautiful tables and enjoy the beautiful weather this fall! Good stuff...

I wanted to thank everyone for coming together today, CIS staff in particular. It's been a tough few days for all of us, especially today with everyone returning to school. However, I was impressed at how well everyone responded. A big thank you to the Response Team, and all of the teachers, and the administrators, for stepping up and being there for our kids and staff today. There is no manual for this and all we can do is take it one day at a time. Please keep Tamlyn Family in your thoughts and prayers.

Subject:  Support Plan for Tomorrow, Tuesday, at the INT School: This morning, all administrators convened at 10:00 AM in the BR to finalize our plans for the start of the school day tomorrow at the INT school. We will have a robust response team of social workers and counselors stationed at the INT/MS Media Center beginning at 7:15 AM. They will provide situational assessments on an individual basis. If students or staff need assistance or someone to talk to in the morning, they will be directed to the Media Center where the Response Team will be available. Additionally, we will have extra administrators stationed in the foyer and cafeteria to monitor student behavior and provide support. Ben Wilson, HS AP, will be present at the INT building for the remainder of this week to assist and support Ben Schley, as well as the INT teachers and students. Please keep the Tamlyn family in your thoughts and prayers.

Due to the unprecedented loss today of Jim Tamlyn, I have heard from many staff and students that are hurting and trying to cope with this shocking news. Therefore, we will be closing all schools tomorrow and using an Emergency Day so that our staff and students can take the day to digest this sad news. Tuesday morning, we will resume our regular schedule and we will have our Crisis Response Team ready for any staff or students that still may need someone to talk too. Please keep the Tamlyn family in your thoughts and prayers.

Dear Cheboygan Families, It is with profound sadness that I write to inform you of the unexpected passing of our dedicated intermediate school principal, Jim Tamlyn. This loss is deeply felt by all of us who had the privilege of working with Principal Tamlyn. To support our students and staff during this period of grief, a Crisis Response Team will be available at the school tomorrow and throughout the week. We encourage you to reach out to the school if your child requires assistance or if you have any concerns about how they are coping with this news. Thank you for your understanding and support as we come together to navigate through this difficult time. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family. Sincerely, Spencer Byrd Superintendent
