East Elementary Renovation Update...
Work continues to move at a fast pace at East Elementary as we get closer to completing the first phase of the renovation project. We are seeing significant progress throughout the building, with several major items now complete or nearing completion.
All classroom VUVs have been installed, and the installation of the Phin tubes is complete. Drywall work throughout the building has also been completed, allowing painters to begin working their way through the South classrooms and moving North. The new roof is now approximately 80% complete, while the existing ceiling grid has been reinstalled. Electricians continue installing devices and new lighting throughout the building.
The two new boilers have been filled and flushed, with no leaks identified. We have also removed the temporary flooring protection and completed the first initial deep cleaning of the building. Beginning August 10, LVT flooring installation will begin along the windows.
Looking Ahead...
The next several weeks will be especially busy as we continue preparing the building for occupancy. An initial 75% walkthrough with the building inspector and fire alarm inspection is scheduled for August 12, followed by electrical and mechanical overhead inspections on August 14. The new air handlers are scheduled to be installed on August 11.
Painters will continue working through the classrooms and hallways before moving into the gym. Ceiling grid installation will continue throughout the building, while crews also work on backfilling and compacting the wall foundation and ongoing excavation. Interior piers will be formed and poured beginning August 12, with steel erection scheduled to begin August 17.
We are very pleased with the progress being made and appreciate the hard work of everyone involved in keeping this project moving forward. Each week, we are seeing the building take another significant step toward becoming a modernized and improved learning environment for our East Elementary students and staff.
Next Week at East Elementary...
The pace at East Elementary will remain strong next week as multiple contractors continue working throughout the building and on the site.
Johnson & Wood will complete ductwork inspections on August 14 and continue work in the boiler room, including filling and flushing ahead of scheduled inspections. Crews will also install toilets and lavatories, install the new air-handling unit, and measure the remaining ductwork.
E&L Construction will continue installing new marker boards and doors, while painters work their way through the classrooms from South to North. The final restroom will receive its epoxy flooring on August 11, and LVT flooring and carpet installation will also begin August 11. Crews will continue installing bathroom accessories throughout the building and will remove concrete demolition debris from both the North and South parking lots.
Shoreline Power Services will be installing a new electrical panel, beginning work on fire lines and devices, and demolishing the existing electrical equipment in the mechanical room.
Division 7 Roofing will continue tearing off the existing roof and installing the new roof, which is currently approximately 80% complete. The roofing team will also continue coordinating all roof penetrations to ensure the various mechanical and electrical components are properly integrated.
With so many trades working simultaneously, the project continues to make significant progress each week as we move closer to completing this phase of the East Elementary renovation.
