Cheboygan Area Schools Board of Education Appoints Wes Becker to Fill Vacant Board Seat

Cheboygan Area Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Wes Becker to the Cheboygan Area Schools Board of Education. (Pictured alongside Julie Lohela, Board President.) Mr. Becker was selected by the Board following a thorough interview process involving three qualified applicants. The appointment fills the vacancy created by a recent Board resignation.

Mr. Becker is a relatively new resident of the Cheboygan community and has quickly become an active supporter of local students and families. He has a strong connection to Cheboygan Area Schools, with one child recently graduating from the district and another currently attending school within the district.

For the past five years, Mr. Becker has served as a coach with the Cheboygan Recreational Soccer League, demonstrating his commitment to youth development and community involvement. Professionally, he brings extensive experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer and has worked closely with school districts on large-scale renovation and construction projects.

Mr. Becker's professional expertise will be particularly valuable as Cheboygan Area Schools continues to invest in its facilities and long-term infrastructure improvements. His understanding of construction planning, project management, and school district operations will provide an important perspective for the Board of Education.

Most importantly, Mr. Becker has expressed a strong commitment to doing what is best for students and supporting the continued success of Cheboygan Area Schools.

"His dedication to students, involvement in our community, and professional experience make him a valuable addition to our team as we continue working to provide the best possible educational opportunities for our students."

Superintendent Spencer Byrd also expressed his enthusiasm for the appointment.

"It was sad to see one of our long-standing Board members leave, but we were very fortunate to have three highly qualified candidates interview for the opening," said Byrd. "Wes brings many qualities and experiences that will be very beneficial to our Board and committee goal work. His background working with school district construction and renovation projects, combined with his commitment to students and our community, will be a tremendous asset. I am excited for the opportunity to work with Wes and look forward to the contributions he will make to Cheboygan Area Schools."
