FYI – I attended the EOC meeting today at 11:00 AM at the county building. It was well attended, with several reports provided. Here are a few key highlights:
The most recent water level reading was approximately 7 inches below the structure. This does not include the additional temporary sandbag reinforcements installed in the most vulnerable areas.
The weather forecast is favorable. Rain chances for the remainder of today and tomorrow are minimal (20–30%), with expected sunshine, wind, and temperatures reaching the upper 50s today.
Flooding has become a county-wide issue, with impacts now being seen downriver as well. Both Black River and Black Lake are under close monitoring.
The DNR has been actively supporting mitigation efforts by adding pumps and sandbags to the dam area. There are currently five additional pumps in operation, with 14 more en route. These pumps range in capacity from 10-inch to 18-inch.
We remain in “Ready” status and have not advanced to “Set.” The team is encouraged that conditions have not escalated further within the EOC warning system today.
For questions, the public is encouraged to call 211 or visit the Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page for updates.
A Public Meeting
will be held tonight at 7:00 PM at the Opera House to provide additional information and answer questions.
I will continue to keep you updated as more information and guidance become available from the EOC. At this time, all state and local agencies are on site and working collaboratively. We will continue to follow the county EOC leadership and direction.
