Cheboygan Area Schools – Sunday Soup Newsletter
Week of November 3, 2025 – Week 10 – First Week of 2nd Quarter
Monday, November 3 – No School for Students / PD Day for Teachers
Monday is our annual COPESD Regional Professional Development Day at the Gaylord E-Free Church. Our keynote speaker will beDr. John Hattie, best known for Visible Learning (2008), which analyzes over 800 meta-analyses involving millions of students.
Transportation for Teachers: We will provide a bus for anyone who prefers not to drive. Departure is at 7:00 AM from the Drift Inn entrance area. It’s a great opportunity to relax and connect with colleagues along the way. If you’d like to ride the bus, please contact Tammy Kage to RSVP. With this year’s speaker, interest is high, so we may need two buses!
Tuesday, November 4 – Election Day!
The COPESD is asking residents to consider a regional CTE millage on the ballot. If approved, it would generate over $4.8 million annually to support Career and Technical Education programs across all ten districts in our region. This is a significant investment in both students’ futures and our local workforce. Please make your voice heard — get out and vote!
Planning for a Happy Thanksgiving
As the holidays approach, Cheboygan Area Schools comes together to support families in need.
Each Thanksgiving, we participate in the Free Thanksgiving Meal Box Program. Each box contains enough food for a family of 4–6, helping ensure every family enjoys a special holiday meal.
How to Participate: Contact your child’s school office directly to reserve a box.
Meal Box Pick-Up:
Date: Monday, November 24
Time: Starting at 10:00 AM
Location: Bus Barn (same as previous years)
Administrators and high school student volunteers will check registrations and load vehicles. There will be no need to get out of your car.
Friday Backpack Food Program
Our Free Friday Backpack Food Program provides families on the list with 2–3 meals for the weekend. To participate, contact your school’s main office or Cris Nesbitt at the District Office. Special thanks to Inverness Academy Principal Kris Jewell and the student volunteers who pack the bags each week — your efforts make a real difference for our students.
Additional Food Assistance Resources
Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, SNAP (Food Assistance) benefits may be delayed for families in Northeast Michigan. For help finding food or other essential resources, call 2-1-1 or visit www.211nemichigan.org for free, confidential support.
